Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some common frequently asked questions (FAQs) for chiropractors:

Chiropractic is a type of healthcare that focuses on the treatment of the musculoskeletal system, that includes all the muscles and joints in the body, not just the spine, to alleviate pain and improve function. Chiropractors use manual therapy techniques and exercise to reduce inflammation, improve joint mobility and enhance muscle performance.

Chiropractors are considered primary care providers and can evaluate and diagnose conditions without a referral. We often work with medical doctors and specialists to get the best treatment plan for you, but the public can come to us directly without referral.

Our team are trained to evaluate and diagnose a variety of conditions and can work with you to develop a customized treatment plan that addresses your specific needs and goals.

Chiropractors can treat a wide range of conditions, including back and neck pain, headaches, migraines, sports injuries, and repetitive strain injuries. They also work on shoulders, elbows, wrists, hands, hips, knees, ankles and feet. Chiropractors also help with conditions related to poor posture, such as sciatica, and can provide treatment for injuries related to car accidents, sporting activates or falls.

Chiropractic is considered a safe form of healthcare and is often used as a complementary or alternative treatment option for many conditions. However, like any medical treatment, it can have potential risks and side effects, so it’s important to discuss any concerns with your chiropractor. The chiropractor will find a way to help you that is safe, and aligns with your needs and expectations.

The frequency of chiropractic visits will vary depending on the individual’s condition and goals. Some individuals may need to see a chiropractor regularly for ongoing treatment and maintenance, while others may only need occasional visits. Your chiropractor can provide guidance on the frequency of visits that’s right for you.

Insurance coverage for chiropractic care varies depending on the insurance provider and the individual’s specific policy. It’s best to check with your insurance provider to determine what coverage is available.

During an appointment, the practitioner will typically take a thorough medical history, perform a physical exam, and use diagnostic tests to determine the best course of treatment. Treatment may include manual adjustments, soft tissue therapies, and rehabilitation exercises. Your practitioner will also provide guidance on lifestyle changes and other strategies to help manage your condition and improve your overall health and well-being.

Dry needling is a type of medical treatment that involves the insertion of fine, thin needles into the skin and underlying tissues to relieve pain, improve function, and reduce muscle tension. It is sometimes called intramuscular manual therapy or trigger point dry needling. The technique is based on the principles of traditional acupuncture but is used for different purposes and typically does not follow the traditional Chinese medicine concepts of acupuncture.

In dry needling, the practitioner uses needles to target specific areas of muscle tension or trigger points, which are tight knots of muscle fibers that can cause pain and discomfort. The insertion of the needle into the trigger point helps to stimulate the muscle and release tension, reducing pain and restoring normal function. Dry needling is commonly used to treat a variety of conditions, including musculoskeletal pain, headaches, and sports injuries.

It is important to note that dry needling should only be performed by a qualified healthcare provider who has received proper training and certification in the technique.

Kinesiology tape, also known as kinesio tape or simply “KT tape,” is a stretchy, elastic tape that is used to provide support and stability to muscles and joints. The tape is applied to the skin in a specific manner to promote healing and improve function.

Kinesiology tape is designed to mimic the natural movement of the skin and underlying tissues, allowing for full range of motion while providing support to the affected area. It is commonly used to treat a variety of conditions, including musculoskeletal pain, sports injuries, and swelling. The tape is also used to help improve posture and alleviate pain caused by conditions such as back pain, knee pain, and shin splints.

Kinesiology tape is a non-invasive and drug-free treatment option that is often used as a complementary therapy to other forms of treatment. It is typically easy to apply and can be worn for several days at a time, making it a convenient option for individuals who are looking for relief from pain and discomfort.

Osteopathy is a form of manual therapy used to treat various musculoskeletal conditions. It involves techniques such as soft tissue massage, joint mobilisation, manipulation and muscle activation to help restore the body to pre-injury movement and function.

Myofascial Cupping is an ancient Chinese therapy which has been used as an alternative therapy for musculoskeletal conditions for many years. It involves applying glass or plastic cups to the skin to create a vacuum effect which draws blood to the affected tissues (muscle & fascia). This then initiates the inflammatory response which helps to    restore function to the injured/ affected tissue and speed up healing time.

A treatment involves a thorough case history & assessment. Treatment is dependent on the individual and the presenting complaint. However treatment can include techniques such as soft tissue massage, joint mobilisation, manipulation, muscle activation, dry needling and myofascial cupping.
